Good Afternoon, I wanted to inform you that this afternoon at approximately 11:30, I initiated a shelter in place. A shelter in place, just means everyone stays inside a building. This was initiated due to a high speed chase that started in Estancia and entered Mountainair. Due to the high police presence in the area, and the unknown whereabouts of the person they were chasing, I felt it was best to keep all staff and students indoors and safe. Good Evening, Our Emergency Board Meeting just ended so I wanted to tell you immediately what was decided. Effective tonight, Mountainair Public Schools will begin a 10 day reset. That means that all campuses and buildings including the gym and weight room will be closed beginning tomorrow Friday, November 19th through Sunday, November 28th. Classes will resume on Monday, November 29th. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and we hope that this extended break allows everyone to get well!

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is looking for volunteers! The role of the volunteer is to support kids in the foster care system when they go to court. Be their voice, be their advocate! On Thursday, September 9th, we will begin school at 12:00! It is of vital importance that our staff and students have an opportunity to attend the funeral services of one of our Mustangs G. Zimmerman. The services are being held at the Assembly of God Church in Mountainair at 9am. On this day, only lunch will be served. Please keep his family, friends, and teachers in your prayers as we grieve his loss.

We need YOU! School districts across our great state have been experiencing an unprecedented teacher shortage. Mountainair is no exception, we have a very difficult time finding teachers. If you have the desire to be a teacher this is a great opportunity for you.

Are you looking for something for the kids to do?? Mr. Dustin Kayser will be hosting “open gym” nights at the Elementary gym. Open gym is open for all students ages 12 and up, Sunday and Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm! Be sure to bring your own water bottle. No registration is required, just show up and have fun!
